Youghal Mackerel Festival, 2012

Building on the hugely successful inaugural mackerel festival of 2011, this year’s event promises a whole host of family entertainment. Follow the food trail, live music and children’s events packed into the weekend!

Friday 24th August – Sunday 2nd September: The Walter Verling Individual Artist Bursary, “Capture Youghal” Exhibition worth €500. Entries to McGoldrick Art & Photography (North Main Street, Youghal) or Gallery Frida (South Main Street, Youghal) on or before the 23rd August. Paintings will be displayed at the Red Store. Sponsored by Youghal 4 All, McGoldrick Art Gallery and Gallery Frida.

Youth Art Competition – Categories Under 18 and Under 13: Entries to Pauline Scott care of Wm. Nevilles, North Main Street, Youghal on or before August 23rd. Paintings will be displayed at Jack O’Patsy’s Pottery. Sponsored by Scott’s Gift Shop and Youghal 4 All.

Friday, 31st August
11am  Tyntes Castle open daily 
4pm-6pm  Jack O’Patsy pottery workshop with Tony 
6.30pm-7.30pm  Open air Trad Seisuín at Barry’s Lane 
7.30pm  Official opening of Mackerel Festival in Barry’s Lane by Martin Shanahan, well known T.V. Chef from Kinsale 
7.45pm  Commence tasting fish starters at La Bella Roma and continue the fish trail at the following restaurants – Luigi’s, Aherne’s Seafood Restaurant, Capri Bay, The Quays, Olé Olé, The Imperial Hotel, The Red Store. All Free of Charge! Fish kindly supplied by fishermen Kevin Murphy, Barry Cloghessy, James Roche, Kieran Foley. 
Saturday, 1st September 
11am  Tyntes Castle open daily 
11am  Face painting for kids at Barry’s Lane all day 
11am – 12:30pm   Music with D.J. Barty at Barry’s Lane
11.30am  Free guided historic walking tour of Youghal. Assembly at Barry’s Lane. Includes a talk in Tyntes Castle on its history. 
 11:30am Free ceramic workshop for children in Doyles Restaurant courtesy of Siobhán Brennan of Crazy Glazing. 
2pm  Aqua Trek sailing competition at the Quays. 
2.30pm  Talk on Fish Nutrition by Rose Kelly at Barry’s Lane. 
2:30pm-5:30pm Free tasting of Mackerel dishes prepared by Youghal Chefs at Barry’s Lane.
3pm  Beach Volley Ball fun challenge on the Mall Beach (see posters) 
4:15pm  Sea Shanties sung by Harmony at Barry’s Lane  
5:15pm  Presentation to Beach Volley Ball winners at Barry’s Lane 
Sunday, 2nd September 
2:30pm – 5:30pm  Free tasting of Mackerel dishes prepared by Youghal Chefs at Barry’s Lane 
2:30pm   Music by John Cunningham at Barry’s Lane 
2:30pm-3:30pm Sand Castle competition for children at the Mall Beach
3pm The Dungarvan Gospel Choir perform at Barry’s Lane
3:30pm-4:30pm Crab competition on the Quay’s for children
4pm-6pm The Arkadia Show Band at Barry’s Lane
4:45pm Presentation of prizes for Crab and sand castle competitions at Barry’s Lane
